Mr Arūnas Vinčiūnas, Head of Cabinet to Commissioner Vytenis Andriukaitis, will be joining the chamber for a business breakfast where he will discuss the priorities of the Cabinet in Health & Food Safety for the new Commission.

The Cabinet of Mr Andriukaitis has been charged with several complex and long-term responsibilities during the Commission, including reviewing the legal framework surrounding Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), modernising and simplifying existing EU food safety policy whilst maintaining high standards, and addressing the increasing challenges placed on national health services against a backdrop of severe pressure on public finances. Mr Vinčiūnas will discuss his Cabinet‘s approach, and priorities, in meeting these challenges.

Arūnas Vinčiūnas has been appointed Head of Cabinet to Vytenis Andriukaitis, Commissioner for Health & Food Safety for Juncker’s Commssion. Prior to this role Mr Vinčiūnas served as Ambassador-at-large and Deputy Permanent Representative for Lithuania between 2009 and 2014, involving a term as President of COREPER I during the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council in the second half of 2013. As Deputy Permanent Representative Mr Vinčiūnas also served as Representative at the Political and Security Committee between 2009 and 2010.

Before this Mr Vinčiūnas worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, most recently as Director of the Eastern Neighbourhood Policy Department, but also including spells as Deputy Director, and as head of the Russia Division, at the Eastern Europe and Central Asia Department. Mr Vinčiūnas has also worked at the Embassay in Spain, the Regional Economic Analysis Division and as Chairman of the Commission of the Baltic Cooperation Council.

During his diplomatic career Mr Vinčiūnas has been awarded the Medal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for merits to Lithuanian Diplomacy, as well as for personal merits in developing transatlantic relations and to commemorate Lithuania’s invitation to join NATO. Mr Vinčiūnas has also been awareded the Golden Laurel Bough from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria.
