1. Work rules : Since 1 October 2017 new rules regarding part-time working schedules apply and employers must adapt their work rules
2. Posting of workers to Belgium : Since 1 October 2017 a liaison officer must be designated and the social inspection can ask additional documents. Be prepared in case of control.  
3. Recent case law on the dismissal reasons: when is a dismissal manifestly unreasonable and what penalties do tribunals award ?

4. Reduction of labour cost : reduced social security contributions and new measures entering into force as of 1 January 2018

Hugues Thibaut is Head of Group S’ International Department since 2011. He advises clients on how to start up their activities in Belgium (branch, subsidiary, representation office) and how to optimize their salary policy (e.g. social contribution reductions and fringe benefits). He also deals with employee mobility matters, such as posting, salary splits, and expat regime. Before joining Group S, Hugues worked as EU affairs adviser and later HR Manager of a Brussels-based, international association. Hugues has a degree in European law from the University of Louvain (UCL) and a degree in Management from the Brussels Business school (Ichec), and has also studied in Sweden and The Netherlands.

Sophie Maes is a partner at Claeys & Engels, the Belgian member of Ius Laboris. Sophie advises national and international clients on various aspects of international employment (including immigration of employees), labour law and social security law. She has a particular interest in the position of expatriates, temporary staff, global mobility issues, labor and employment law, transfer of undertakings and company restructurings. Sophie is also co-chair of the Global Mobility team within Ius Laboris and works closely with other members of Ius Laboris on transnational employment projects and queries. Sophie has been a member of the Brussels Bar since 1998. She graduated from the University of Leuven (K.U.L Leuven) in 1997, having studied in Leuven and at the University of Rouen (France). She obtained a special degree in labour law from the University of Brussels (ULB) in 1998.
