A central key to successful communication is establishing authentic engagement and real interaction with your audiences. You need to make an impact, and win both their minds and their hearts, which often entails changing their opinions and behaviours.

But what are the drivers for people to change their behaviour? Whereas fact-based information might change opinions, it often lacks the power to change behaviour. Even in business communications we need to engage with others on an emotional level and make them feel that changing is for the better.

Reflect for a moment on all the presentations you have attended: how many PowerPoint slides with bullets and graphs do you remember and how many made you change your behaviour? This is where storytelling techniques come into play: using elements of the ancient art of storytelling can help you even today to make your point and make stakeholders act upon your point.

During this Lunch & Learn session, Nicholas Courant, Senior Consultant at Porter Novelli, will talk about how storytelling techniques can help you convince stakeholders in your professional life. Nicholas helps corporate clients engage with the right stakeholders, using the right strategy, tools and tactics - including via storytelling. On twitter he is @nicholascourant
