The British Chamber is delighted to be hosting H.E. Martin Shearman C.V.O., our Ambassador to Belgium, for a lunch at the Stanhope Hotel. This will be a first chance to hear from the Ambassador at length, since the British General Election in December. The Ambassador will speak on government priorities and take questions on issues relevant to Britain’s relationship with Belgium as well as the wider strategic context including Europe.

British Ambassador to Belgium | British Embassy

Martin Shearman was appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium in June 2019. Martin was previously posted to New York where he was responsible for the UK’s engagement with the United Nations on development, humanitarian and human rights issues with the rank of Ambassador. Before that Martin served in Africa as British High Commissioner to Uganda and Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria. His first diplomatic posting was to the British Embassy in Japan where he supported British business, trade and investment interests. Martin has worked extensively on European foreign and security policy, including as head of the Foreign Office’s Common Foreign and Security Policy Department and NATO Section. He also led the Department of Trade and Industry’s Japan Unit and worked at the Cabinet Office on a major review of HM Government’s trade promotion structures. Martin was educated at The Skinners’ School in Tunbridge Wells and Trinity College Oxford.
