This is a fundamental element in the facilitation of trade in goods in the European single market, especially in highly integrated sectors with extensive cross-border supply chains, removing tariffs between Member States but also rules of origin procedures for import/exports. Given the political statements around the opportunities for free trade agreements with 3rd countries following Brexit, it currently seems highly unlikely the UK will continue to be a part of the Customs Union following the end of the Article 50 process. This roundtable is an opportunity to highlight the specific implications for business of ending the UK’s membership of the Customs Union,  which will help the chamber to communicate the concerns of members to the UK government, and potentially consider mitigation options. We have invited UKREP colleagues to be present. The expectation is that participants will provide cases and will be asked to provide headings for their contribution in advance to facilitate the discussion.
