Authorised by the Council of the EU, in March 2013, the European Commission opened negotiations on a plurilateral trade in services agreement between the EU and 21 other countries. TiSA is one of the most important agreements that are currently negotiated, Ignacio Iruarrizaga Diez, Head of Unit, Trade in Services, DG TRADE, will discuss “The negotiations on a Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA) and the role of services in the Global Supply Chain” followed by a moderated Q&A session.

The Unit is responsible for the negotiation of international trade agreements on services and it handles the multilateral and bilateral trade negotiations in that area.

Mr Díez has worked for nineteen years at the European Commission, always dealing with the external relations of the Union.  In the early nineties, he worked on the management of the PHARE programme in support of Central and Eastern European countries. For the last seventeen years, Ignacio Iruarrizaga Díez has been handling trade policy, notably trade defence instruments and trade in services.

Before joining the European Commission, Ignacio Iruarrizaga Díez worked as a business strategy consultant at The Boston Consulting Group in Madrid and as an analyst at Banco Español de Crédito in London.  He studied economics in Bilbao and Amsterdam.
