The EU Committee cordially invites you to attend our quarterly briefing from the UK Permanent Representative to the EU. For this quarter we are happy to welcome Chris Jones, Counsellor – Justice and Home Affairs, who will give a briefing on 'UK priorities in justice and home affairs'.
With the conclusion of common EU data protection rules stated
as a priority for the new Commission, Chris Jones will touch upon
Safe Harbour, data retention rules and passenger records
legislation, as well as fielding questions on these issues and discuss
their impact on the private sector.
Chris Jones is the JHA Counsellor in UKRep with responsibility for work across the JHA agenda. This includes migration, policing and security, criminal justice, data protection, civil justice and fundamental rights.
Chris is a Home Office Senior Civil Servant on secondment to UKRep. He has worked on EU JHA issues for a number of years including a three year posting as a Seconded National Expert in the European Commission (judicial cooperation in criminal matters) as well as being responsible for EU coordination in the Home Office. He has held a number of posts in the Office for Security and Counter Terrorism in the Home Office, most recently with responsibility for the protective security elements of the Home Office’s Olympic Security Programme for the 2012 Games. He also led a multi-disciplinary team responsible for the UK’s counter narcotics programme in Afghanistan from 2004-2005.
