The Single Market task force welcome you to join us for our first in our Political Advisor Series with Karin Sauerteig. Mrs Sauerteig will share her thoughts over breakfast on her experience as main political advisor to the ALDE Group on the IMCO Committee, a role that she has held for the past eight years.

With her role Mrs Sauerteig will be able to discuss the Digital Single Market, the Commissioner hearings and strategies and the role of Group advisors in the European Parliament. As a lawyer by training Mrs Sauerteig also served as substitute advisor on the JURI Committee during the Commissioners' hearings last October.

As a task force briefing this event will be limited to 20 representatives, and 1 per member company, and held under the Chatham House rule in order to encourage discussion.


Political advisor on the IMCO Committee to the ALDE Group | European Parliament

As a law graduate from the Universities of Passau, Toulouse and Bonn Karin Sauerteig passed her bar exam in Cologne in 2000. She has a specialisation in European Law and languages. From 2001 to early 2005 she was Head of the Brussels Office of the Bundessteuerberaterkammer (German Federal Chamber of Tax Advisers) and its European umbrella organisation C.F.E. (Confederation Fiscale Européenne) for which her main responsibilities were to represent the interests of this liberal profession vis-à-vis both national and European institutions. In 2005 she joined the Secretariat of the ALDE (Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe) Group where she was first appointed Group adviser to the Regional Development Committee and subsequently in 2006 to the Constitutional Affairs Committee. Since 2007 she has been Senior Adviser for the Internal Market & Consumer Protection Committee and she is also substitute adviser to the Legal affairs Committee. During the 2009-2014 mandate of the European Parliament she led a small team of ALDE MEPs and staff running the group´s SME Campaign. As a Group adviser she is in charge of all legislative and non-legislative reports in the Committee, briefing of the ALDE members, supporting the Coordinator and the other ALDE members in various tasks including establishing the Group line and other questions and organising conferences and seminars. Most recently she supported the liberal Commissioners during their hearings and evaluations, notably Vice President Ansip and Commissioner Jourova. Karin’s working languages are English, German and French; she also speaks Spanish and Dutch.

This event is held under the Chatham House Rule.
