The Role of Sustainability in Competition Law

With the unprecedented climate emergency we currently face, it is apparent that our economy must be part of the solution not the problem. This presentation will focus on the need for competition law to adopt a more sustainable approach. Leading this brilliant discussion is Simon Holmes, Judge at the UK’s Competition Appeal Tribunal, legal advisor to the environmental NGO, ClientEarth and Non-Governmental Advisor to the European Commission for the International Competition Network.

The Future of Trade with Latin America and the Implementation of the EU-Mercosur Trade Agreement

At this EU Committee lunch briefing Matthias Jorgensen Head of Unit C3 at DG TRADE, will discuss the future of trade relations between the EU and Latin America. Particularly focusing on the implementation of the EU-Mercosur Trade Agreement. This discussion will look at the goals of the agreement but also examine the challenges it faces. British Ambassador to Belgium, H.E. Martin Shearman, on UK-Belgium Relations

The British Chamber is delighted to be hosting H.E. Martin Shearman C.V.O., our Ambassador to Belgium, for a lunch at the Stanhope Hotel. This will be a first chance to hear from the Ambassador at length, since the British General Election in December. The Ambassador will speak on government priorities and take questions on issues relevant to Britain’s relationship with Belgium as well as the wider strategic context including Europe.


Postponed: European Champions vs. the World – how FDI Helps

We are pleased to welcome Maria Martin-Prat Director of Services and Investments, Intellectual Property and Public Procurement at DG TRADE. Ms Martin-Prat will discuss Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and the increasingly important role it has played in the last two decades in Europe. Particularly looking at FDI as a tool to fortify and strengthen European Champions in the face of global competition.

Green Deal Series: Moving Towards Zero Carbon Economy and the Implementation of the Renewable Energy Directive

We were pleased to welcome Francesco Maria Graziani, Policy officer at DG ENER| European Commission. This presentation provided a detailed and insightful account of the Revised Renewable Energy Directive 2018/2001/EU (RED II) which aims to provide “Clean Energy for all Europeans”. The key objectives of this directive are to provide long term certainty, promote innovation on transport and promote the active role of consumers.

What's Next for EU Water Policy?

We were pleased to welcome Alfonso Alcolea Policy Officer at the Clean Water Unit at DG ENV. This discussion covered a wide range of topics on the evolution of EU Water Policy. Particularly focusing on the water framework currently in place along with the implementation of the Water Framework Directive. Water is a cross-cutting issue which deals with a variety of policy areas such as nature protection, tourism,agriculture, and industry.
