Rescheduled - Priorities of DG CONNECT

For our final EU Committee webinar before a well-earned summer break, we were joined by Mr Martin Bailey, Head of Unit Digital Policy and Development at DG CONNECT, for an insight into what the Commission will be working on over the next few months and years when it comes to Digitalisation. The Commission’s plan to digitalise Europe is split into three pillars of policy and strategy: The European Green Deal, A New Industrial Strategy for Europe, and Shaping Europe’s Digital Future. Each of these initiatives have a scope far wider than the digital agenda, but digitalisation is key to the success of all of them, and each would not succeed without the success of the others.

Which digital agenda for Europe’s post-COVID recovery: taking stock before the summer break

On the afternoon of Tuesday 14th July, we were delighted to be joined online by Ms Eva Maydell MEP, who provided our members with a fascinating insight into the challenges and expectations facing the digital world in a post-Covid era. Digitalising Europe would be a significant step towards an economic recovery, as well as contributing to potential long-term growth over the next decade or so. Digitalisation has the potential to boost productivity, adapt supply chains, and improve customer relations, but in order to maximise the full potential of new technologies businesses must go further than simply holding more meetings on Zoom. This goes hand in hand with the EU’s digital agenda aiming to make it easier and safer for European business to digitalise their working methods.
