Mr Brown has been Australian Ambassador to the EU, Belgium, Luxembourg and NATO since April 2018. Prior to this appointment, he led the trade and investment group in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Canberra, with responsibility for Australia’s trade negotiations and trade policy agenda. During this period, he was Australia’s chief negotiator in the TPP-11 negotiations. During his career, he led Australia’s team in free trade negotiations with Thailand. He has been the head of the department’s trade law unit and separately served as Australia’s lead climate change negotiator. For three years, he was in charge of the department’s consular and crisis management division. Overseas, he has been Australia’s High Commissioner to Canada and, earlier in his career, he had postings in Los Angeles, Brussels and Copenhagen. He holds a Bachelor of Economics from the University of New England. In 2015, he was awarded the Public Service Medal.
