Olivér Várhelyi is Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary at the Permanent Representation of Hungary to the EU. From 2011 to 2015 he was Deputy Permanent Representative of Hungary, Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary. He previously worked as the Head of Unit responsible for Industrial Property Rights at the European Commission, Directorate General Internal Market and Services from 2008 to 2011. Prior to 2008, Ambassador Várhelyi was Head of the European Union Law Department at the Ministry of Justice. He has also held the position of Head of the Legal Service at the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Hungary to the European Union (2003-2006) as well as Legal counsellor at the Mission of the Republic of Hungary to the European Union (2001-2003). From 1998 to 2001 he was Chef de cabinet, Head of the Legal Unit at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cabinet of the Deputy Head of the State Secretary for Integration. Ambassador Olivér Várhelyi gained a Masters of European Legal Studies from Aalborg University, Denmark and holds a Law degree from University of Szeged, Faculty of Law and Political Sciences. He then passed the bar in 2005.
