Intellectual Property and the Fight Against Counterfeiting

In the European Union alone, counterfeit and pirated products make up around 5% (€85bn) of imports. The effect of this on business and industry is staggering. In the clothing industry, for example, the impact of the counterfeit market has resulted in the loss over 500,000 jobs, as well as around €43bn of lost sales. Counterfeit goods also pose health and safety risks to consumers and maufacturers alike.
